What is Chiropractic?

Chiropractic is the primary health-care profession of a chiropractor that specialises in the diagnosis, treatment and overall management of conditions that are due to problems with the joints, ligaments, tendons and nerves, particularly those of the spine.

The cause of many different back and neck complaints derive from a problem within the spine. When the normal movement of a spinal joint is restricted, it has a direct effect on the surrounding tissue, causing muscles and ligaments to tense up, often resulting in pain and inflammation.

Chiropractic treatment involves safe, gentle and specific manipulation and mobilisation techniques to free joints in the spine and restore ‘normal’ motion. Once mobility is restored, aches and pain are significantly reduced, muscles and ligaments relax and blood flow is increased to the affected area.

In addition to manipulation, our Exeter Chiropractors use a wide variety of techniques including therapeutic massage, muscles stretches, deep tissue laser therapy, postural advice and rehabilitation exercises.
